Welcome to EWB Fall 2017
9/8/2017
The start of the new school year brought fresh, new faces to Engineer’s Without Borders-Guatemala, an engineering organization with a simple goal, to build better living situations for those living in one of the poorest countries in the world. The goal is simple, getting there is not, which is why it takes so many creative minds to find a solution to the incredible challenges Guatemalans face every day. The new faces just finding their way to EWB-Guatemala join a group of approximately 25 students who focus on design, materials, construction, finances, and the culture of Guatemala. The team is not just made up of students however, there are professional mentors which teach the intricacies of design, give guidance and refinement on ideas, and provide credibility with their years of experience in the professional engineering world.
After finishing up the Rio Lindo bridge project over the summer, EWB-Guatemala is ready to take on the largest student-led project in EWB-USA’s history, the Zapote Water Project. With plans to bring clean, drinkable water to over 700 people, EWB-Guatemala has taken on quite the challenge but is definitely ready for it. The community of Zapote does not currently have access to clean, potable water and in consequence their children and adults are missing vital days of school and work as they suffer from bacterial diseases caused by bacteria breeding in their water sources. EWB-Guatemala is working together with the community of Zapote to route the water to the village from the springs the village purchased located over 12 kilometers away. The Zapote Water Project is no easy feat and EWB-Guatemala needs your help to accomplish their goal. They’ve made it really easy for you to donate to the cause by clicking on the link here. Want to share how you are helping bring clean water to Zapote? Use EWB-Guatemala’s hashtag #EWBeTheChange in your social media posts to help spread the word.
